Matcha Heart Cookies
Soft, buttery, and lightly sweet with a delicate earthy flavor, these Matcha Thumbprint Heart Cookies are made with Familia Ruelas Matcha Tea for a beautiful green hue and rich taste. Created by Sophia Ruelas, daughter of owner Joe Ruelas, this recipe is a sweet way to enjoy matcha beyond the cup.
Ingredients
- 130g all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon Familia Ruelas Matcha Tea
- 115g unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 70g powdered sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 60g jam of choice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, mix flour and matcha powder. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar and mix until smooth.
- Add egg yolk and vanilla extract; mix until combined.
- Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until the dough comes together.
- Scoop 1 tablespoon of dough, roll into balls, and place on the baking sheet about 1 inch apart.
- Gently press each ball flat and use your fingers to form a heart shape in the center.
- Fill each heart with jam, smoothing it into the shape.
- Bake for 9–10 minutes. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for at least 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
