Matcha Heart Cookies

Soft, buttery, and lightly sweet with a delicate earthy flavor, these Matcha Thumbprint Heart Cookies are made with Familia Ruelas Matcha Tea for a beautiful green hue and rich taste. Created by Sophia Ruelas, daughter of owner Joe Ruelas, this recipe is a sweet way to enjoy matcha beyond the cup.

 

Ingredients

  • 130g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Familia Ruelas Matcha Tea
  • 115g unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 70g powdered sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 60g jam of choice


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix flour and matcha powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar and mix until smooth.
  4. Add egg yolk and vanilla extract; mix until combined.
  5. Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until the dough comes together.
  6. Scoop 1 tablespoon of dough, roll into balls, and place on the baking sheet about 1 inch apart.
  7. Gently press each ball flat and use your fingers to form a heart shape in the center.
  8. Fill each heart with jam, smoothing it into the shape.
  9. Bake for 9–10 minutes. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for at least 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
